This is beautifully framed! As a linguist, I especially loved how you brought out the importance of context in broadening our understanding of things.
After all, it is context that really drives meaning -- linguistically, a word used in one conversation may mean something completely different when used in another -- but also in a bigger sense.
Bravo!

A friend told me that "I See You" figures prominently in the movie "Avatar". I just saw Avatar last night and was amazed. The words and concept came to me suddenly one morning without having heard any of the Avatar buzz. And now nearly a month later I find that the movie creator and I shared a concept. It must be the network of energy, also important to Avatar. Thank you, Diane.

After posting this blog I learned that one of my Silver Spring contacts had delivered donations from 5 families to the Embassy. The network continued.
The scene she witnessed later in the afternoon must have resembled the photo that appeared in The Washington Post today, the 18th. I suspect they needed more than the one rental truck that I saw parked there.

Kate- When I first started reading your post I felt panicked, but as you described your ability to survive without the PDA, it gave me a feeling of confidence that I could do it too! Thanks for sharing, sometimes I need to remind myself to turn off the PDA and close the laptop and just shut down! I may even run to the grocery store without my Blackberry today.....
